Teaching & Learning

U1Coursework & Assignments
AI ProhibitedAttribution Required
  • AI-generated content is prohibited as original work in graded assignments
  • The faculty handbook also states that unauthorized, undisclosed use of generative AI to complete classwork is academic dishonesty
  • For the CT-CCNP nursing program, AI is permitted only for academic support such as brainstorming, writing improvement, and concept review, but students must ensure submitted work reflects their own understanding and effort

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT, share path AI, Co-pilot, Gemini, Claude, Grammarly, etc.) is permitted in the CT-CCNP only for academic support such as study assistance, writing improvement, and concept review. Students may use AI for brainstorming or refining assignments but must ensure that all submitted work reflects their own understanding and effort.

AI-generated content must not be submitted as original work in any graded assignment, care plan, clinical documentation, or exam.

Academic dishonesty also includes the unauthorized, undisclosed use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to complete classwork.

U2Examinations & Assessments
AI Prohibited in Exams
  • In the CT-CCNP nursing program, AI-generated content is prohibited in exams
  • The faculty handbook additionally treats unauthorized, undisclosed use of generative AI to complete classwork as academic dishonesty, and faculty may set course-specific rules in the syllabus

AI-generated content must not be submitted as original work in any graded assignment, care plan, clinical documentation, or exam.

Academic dishonesty also includes the unauthorized, undisclosed use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to complete classwork.

AI Encouraged for Study
  • Students must still ensure that submitted work reflects their own understanding and effort
  • For the CT-CCNP nursing program, AI is permitted for non-graded academic support, including study assistance, writing improvement, concept review, and brainstorming or refining assignments

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT, share path AI, Co-pilot, Gemini, Claude, Grammarly, etc.) is permitted in the CT-CCNP only for academic support such as study assistance, writing improvement, and concept review. U8Disclosure & Attribution Requirements
Disclosure MandatoryCitation Required
  • The faculty handbook also states that undisclosed use of generative AI to complete classwork is academic dishonesty
  • AI disclosure is not universally mandated in the provided texts, but nursing faculty may require disclosure of AI use
  • In the CT-CCNP nursing program, citations are required for written assignments to acknowledge sources and avoid plagiarism

Citations must be used to acknowledge sources and avoid plagiarism in accordance with APA standards.

Faculty may require disclosure of AI use, verify work through detection tools, and request clarification of student submissions.

Academic dishonesty also includes the unauthorized, undisclosed use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to complete classwork.

U9Detection & Enforcement
Detection Tools UsedPenalties Defined
  • It also states that faculty can assign an F for academic misconduct and that additional disciplinary sanctions may apply
  • In the nursing program, misuse of AI may result in disciplinary action, faculty may verify work through detection tools, and may request clarification of submissions
  • The faculty handbook permits faculty use of SafeAssign to check student work for plagiarism and requires suspected plagiarism to be reported through student affairs conduct processes

If you suspect plagiarism in a student’s work, you must report this to the Campus Dean of Students and Faculty or Campus Dean responsible for student affairs and submit a conduct referral form.

SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention service, offered by and integrated into Blackboard. This service helps educators prevent plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers.

Faculty can assign a grade of “F” to any student found guilty of academic misconduct. Such an “F” cannot be overridden by a student-initiated “W” (withdrawal from the specific class or withdrawal from all classes). If a student is found to have multiple infractions, a stronger penalty may be observed. Academic dishonesty can also result in other disciplinary sanctions as defined in the CSCU - Interim Student Academic Misconduct Policy.

Misuse of AI tools - such as plagiarism, dishonesty, or privacy breaches - may result in disciplinary action. Faculty may require disclosure of AI use, verify work through detection tools, and request clarification of student submissions.

Institutional & Administrative

U10Faculty & Staff Use
Staff Guidelines
  • In the nursing program, faculty may require disclosure of student AI use, verify work through detection tools, and request clarification
  • No broader policy on faculty use of AI for grading, feedback, lesson planning, or administrative writing is defined in the provided documents
  • The faculty handbook allows faculty to use SafeAssign and describes how originality reports are delivered to faculty, including a Direct Submit option

SafeAssign has two options that faculty may use:

1. SafeAssign Built into a Blackboard Assignment:

Students self-submit their own papers via an assignment that has been set up so that student submissions are checked for plagiarism using SafeAssign. Originality reports are then delivered to the faculty member and optionally to the student if the faculty member permits it.

2. Direct Submit:

This option enables faculty to submit papers or to copy and paste text from a paper or any other source (a discussion, blog, or journal post, for example) to be checked for plagiarized content.

Faculty may require disclosure of AI use, verify work through detection tools, and request clarification of student submissions.

U11Institutional Data Protection & Approved AI Platforms
Unapproved AI Blocked
  • In the CT-CCNP nursing program, entering real patient information into AI platforms is strictly prohibited because it is treated as a HIPAA violation
  • The faculty handbook also requires removal of personally identifiable information before using SafeAssign Direct Submit and bars faculty from uploading CSCU student work to outside institutions' plagiarism detection services

Inputting any real patient information into AI platforms is a HIPAA violation and strictly prohibited.

This option requires that faculty remove personally identifiable information and only faculty receive the originality report.

Faculty who are also associated with colleges or universities outside the CSCU system are not allowed to upload CSCU student work to a plagiarism detection service provided by that college, nor use our detection service to assess the work of a student not registered for a CSCU‐contracted course.

U12University AI Governance & Strategy
Governance Body ActiveAI Strategy Defined
